Summary/Abstract: Romanians from Transylvania and Banat glorify the founder and organizer of their Metropolitanate of Sibiu in the person of the great Metropolitan bishop Andrei Șaguna, who was their enlightened spiritual leader, in the struggle and hardships of the days of their political rebirth, in 1848. Andrei Șaguna, was the very good and loving pastor, in the unfolding of so many events of overwhelming importance to us all. In Șaguna, Romanians from Transylvania,Moldova and Wallachia honor the Metropolitan bishop worthy of eternal remembrance, among the most enlightened Metropolitan bishops of the Romanian Christian Church – Varlaam, Dosoftei, Veniamin Costachi. As a man of the church, but also a man with specialpolitical and diplomatic qualities, indispensable at a time when, without them, the abuses of power could not be resisted, Șaguna knew how to read the signs of the times, in events and circumstances, and to obtain for the people all the possible benefits. Courageous of renewals, he founded new Romanian institutions, imagined forms of public activities, often in the spirit of the time, but also against it,from the perspective he anticipated with a special diplomatic spirit. He knew how to take advantage of the weakening of the Habsburg Empire, when it occurred. He was the unsurpassed organizer and the first Orthodox Archiepiscopate/Metropolitanate of the Romanian Church in Transylvania and Banat.
