Summary/Abstract: The article is a biographical note on geologist Mircea Paucă (1903–1988). We make reference to his school years, his studies at the University of Vienna (where in 1930 he obtained a Doctorate in Paleobiology, following the defense of the dissertation entitled Oligocene Fauna and Flora from Suslăneşti-Muscel – Die fossile Fauna und Flora aus dem Oligozan von Suslanesti – Muscel in Romania), his career (as an academic staff member of the University of Bucharest, Director of the „Grigore Antipa” Museum of Natural History, researcher at the Geological Institute etc.). The main issues he addressed in his research were: Oligocene fossil fish from Suslăneşti-Muscel and Piatra Neamţ, Romania; Pliocene in Pannonian facies; the genesis of evaporites; geomorphology, paleontology, hydrobiology and technical geology etc. He discovered and described over 70 new genera and species of fish, birds, mammals, mollusks, echinoderms, arthropods, plants etc. Prof. M. Paucă’s research has led tooutstanding results in paleontology, stratigraphy, tectonics, geomorphology, paleogeography, hydrogeology, as well as in fundamental geology issues.
