Summary/Abstract: The sources of contemporary urban movements can be sought in the deep changes of the social and political transformation taking place in the 90s of the last century. They consisted in the implementation of new rules of social and economic life, which concerned the realities of urban life. Contemporary participation of urban residents is based on the activity of many social environments, both organized, partially organized and informally operating. The clasp that links their actions is the idea of improving the quality of urban life, expressed both in the hitherto disseminated and innovative activities, hitherto not occurring in urban space. The second part of the article contains an overview of various forms of civic activity in Zielona Góra, it is also an attempt to synthetically look at the city through the prism of initiatives and projects in the field of civic participation. It contains a discussion of selected forms of urban activities occurring in Zielona Góra.
