Summary/Abstract: The article is the first Polish analysis of Michael Calvin McGee’s ‘materialistic rhetoric’ and ‘ideograph’ theory. The basic assumptions of each theory are summarized and on the example of the ideographs ‹family› and ‹traditional values› it is demonstrated how McGee’s theories can be useful in studying the language of contemporary politics in Poland.
