Summary/Abstract: The complexity of the issues related to the manufacture, transport and energy consumption has increased over the past decades, at the same time with the deepening of the global environmental problems, climate change and depletion of natural reserves. The integration of the environmental policy within energy policy involves taking the following issues: translating the idea of sustainable development into operational policy commitments; strengthening the positive links between the three axes of sustainable development: security of supply, competitive energy services and environmental protection; developing a coherent set of short and long term strategies; establishing a timetable for implementation of the proposed measures; monitoring the indicators which illustrate the progress in the field. Energy must be a dynamic sector that is able to actively support the country's economic development and to reduce the disparities towards the European Union. Thus, the overall objective of carrying out the activity in the energy sector is to meet energy needs, both at present and on medium and long term basis, at a price as low as possible, suitable for a modern market economy and for a decent standard of living, in terms of quality, security of supply, while observing the principles of sustainable development. The successful implementation of sustainable energy policy should start with studying the impact of energy upon the environment.
