Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to analyze and discuss the common force operating for convergence of competition appraisal, the economic development benefits of competition policy, the growing use of economics in European competition law enforcement, and the risks and transaction costs of investing in and operating a business. The paper generates insights about economic competition across the borders of the New Europe, the role of government in promoting competitive rivalry, the importance of competition and competition (antitrust) law-policy in reducing market dominance, and the use of economics in competition law enforcement.
