Summary/Abstract: Since the 19th century, Western art has been interested in the arts of the cultures which lived outside their geography. They have created a new direction in Western art by assimilating the abstract language that they have learned from the Eastern art. One of these artists is Andre Masson. At first he produced works of art which belonged to the Cubist ecole and in general to the Surrealist art with a genuine intellect and production, and in the last quarter in which he produced abstract Expressionistic works of art, he reflected calligraphic tendencies and impressions. Within the Western art, this drift not only identified him with the abstract expressionism along with other artists but also situated him in a different spot. While many Western artists assimilated the near and far East in their works, Masson’s paintings affected the American abstract Expressionist works by the abstract transfer of linear language.
