Archives and technological challenges for archival information

Summary/Abstract: The quick development of information and digital technologies has involved since its beginnings also the world of documentation. This has led to the production and distribution of computerized search tools, easy to use but refined in structure and functionality. This system has nurtured hopes for a new search tool, capable of creating a network of links between documents and reference sources, the ability to integrate knowledge and build links between distributed documentary entities: an easy-to-use cultural information system with endless possibilities that would enable the interaction between cognitive systems realized according to specific procedures and on the basis of different disciplinary traditions. The issue at hand is not in fact, as many blindly believe, entirely technological, but it is above all cultural: the real obstacle to the realization of integration between documentary sources consists of specific methodologies, which over time has tried to it becomes possible to access these resources, each of them in its own disciplinary environment.
