Latin collections in the National Library of Kosovo

Summary/Abstract: After research conducted at the National Library of Kosovo “Peter Bogdani”, respectively in the Department of Special Collections, we found that this institution possesses a considerable number of Latin collections. The content of these collections is mainly of scholatic, educational, historical and religious nature. The period of these publications ranges from 1474 to 1955. It is to be emphasized that most of these collections are mainly of historical, cultural, educational, vocabulary, grammar and exercise content. Much of them are books donated by prominent personalities of culture, science and studies such as Kristë Maloki, Shaqir Kastrati and others. But there are also purchases from individuals. They are currently used by library audience only for study and research aspects. Given the importance of these collections, they are classified in the special fund of rare and old book collections and are considered a rarity. In addition to the original books, some of these collections have copies. In this paper we have attempted to provide basic bibliographic data and content.
