Summary/Abstract: Assuming that the future teacher, translator, interpreter or philologist-specialist in general must have a good command of a written language as a form of formulation of thoughts in order to give information in an appropriate stylistic form the author of the present article attempts at specifying the principles of work on the particular sorts of written exercises in connection to the command of functional styles of utterances. The system of exercises in the field of teaching written language should be connected, according to the author’s suggestion, with the operational approach to linguistic activity, starting from doing exercises related with the initial zero transformation of information aiming at exercises related to the partial and full transformation of information. The material devoted to teaching written language should at the same time be interesting from the cognitive point of view, it should awake a creative attitude and develop pedagogical thinking.
