Summary/Abstract: The article is concerned with the satirical aspect of Bulgakov’s grotesque or, in other words, it touches the problem of parody. Taking the analisis of the rule of ironic narration, which plays a primary role in ‘The Master and Margaret’ the author presents the opinion that Bulgakov’s work creates a certain kind of anti-convention of the novel. This may be examplified by the parody of traditional forms of narration such as sentimental or the so called objective narration and by the parody of the form of inner monologue, the simplified presentation of the landscape done in a grotesque way, the constantly reappearing motive of scandal and the technique of presentation of characters based on the diversity of view-points expressed in narration. In this way the Master is the tragicomical character whereas there are several possible interpretations in the case of Margaret. As far as the devils are concerned there is no single interpretation of their lacking the demonic character. Finally, the author discusses the function of the literary innuendo which is connected with the problem of parody and which, as a way of referring to the literary tradition, helps to understand the author’s system of values.
