Summary/Abstract: The first scientific analysis of the Slavic borrowings in the Romanian language is found in the work of the Czech scientist Pavel Josef Šafařík, entitled Slovanské starožitnosti, published in Prague in 1837 (translated into German − 1844, Polish −1844 and Russian − 1848), 24 years before Franz Miklosich’s paper Die slavischen Elemente im Rumunischen was published, where Šafařík’s work is quoted 3 times. We have proof that Šafařík was familiar with Romanian as many Romanian Slavonic manuscripts were found in his archive with notes and comments by his hand.
