Wooden jewel boxes with patrimonial value in the NMENHM collections

Summary/Abstract: One of the most valuable attributes of daily life in Western and Oriental civilization were the cassettes. Therefore, the most significant wooden jewel boxes in the NMENHM (National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History of Moldova) are analyzed in this paper. Initially, the author exposes a brief history of wooden boxes. He presents the arguments for writing an article about jewel boxes. The author describes them further from the geometrical aspect, enumerates the ornaments (the motives), the authors of these works, the fate of this wooden boxes, their history and dimensions. At the end of the article the main symbols are deciphered.
