Summary/Abstract: Turkey was unprepared for the transformation that has been occured in the Soviet speace in the aftermath of the Cold War era. In addition to the structural problems in its internal politics, the expectations and hopes lead soon to disappointments and Turkey’s relations with the Central Asian Republics could not leap far beyond “slogan visionism” as Bülent Ecevit expressed. While Ecevit was the leader of the opposition, he explained his point of views in various platforms such as in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on what to do with Central Asian states and he frequently referred to the “Turkey’s key role in the process of Eurasianization” based on his “Regional Foreign Policy” approach. However, he could not realise his thoughts on Central Asia as the leader of coalition that he proposed as the leader of the opposition. Ecevit considered the Turkish Cenral Asian relations as an integral part of his multidimensional foreign policy and stressed the importance of these relations for intensifying bilateral relations of his country with the European Union. This article anlyses the determinants of the Ecevit’s Central Asia policy. This researchwork evaluates Ecevit’s discourses and policies on Central Asia and Azerbaijan with the aid of method of content analysis.
