Summary/Abstract: Beginning from the second half of the 19th century, qualified German immigrants were settled in Anatolia within the legal framework of the Ottoman Empire. This migration policy, which was founded on economic grounds, on the other hand, rendered it necessary to be cautious about the possible colonial activities of the Germans on the Turkish soil. The German colony, which settled in Amasya in the 1850s, is an outstanding example in that regard. In this study, the German colony, which contributed especially to the silk production in Amasya, is examined regarding the Turkish- German relations. It is revealed, from the case of Amasya, that the policy of settling German colonies on the Turkish territory did not result in effective outcomes due to the Ottoman opposition to foreign intervention and the cultural discrepancies between the two communities.
