The right to accessibility of disabled people

Summary/Abstract: Accessibility of public space is essential for the full enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by all persons with disabilities and is a general obligation of states, by ratifying the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. However, better enforcement at national level of the legislation on mandatory accessibility of the physical environment, information and communications, along with more effective control of the relevant institutions could create the prerequisites for accessibility of public space.
