Summary/Abstract: The mythological characters common to Balkan traditions and existing among the South Eastern Slavs, are called by genetically different lexemes. This is reflected in the ethnolinguistic dictionary “Slavic antiquities”, despite its Slavic orientation. The article deals with the Balkan dialect vocabulary of such names and the ways of its presentation in different dictionary entries. The article postulates the need for taking into account the Balkan context of the functioning of the corresponding mental concepts, and the vocabulary (literary and dialectal) reflected it in the dictionary dedicated to all Slavic traditions, including the South Slavic ones. The areal picture of the distribution of the lexemes and the corresponding folklore and ethnographic designations shows the motion paths of the borrowings from different Balkan languages, which is only partly reflected in the ethnolinguistic dictionary of the Slavic antiquities.
