Summary/Abstract: This study “Kaunas in Škėma’s works: intersections of perspectives” is inspired by a wish to deny a widespread opinion that the White Shroud conforms to the popular ideas that Vilnius is idolized and Kaunas is pictured as a profane place. Škėma’s works testify about experiences of writer’s adolescence and youth, spent in Kaunas (1925–1940), the city’s urban renewal that took place in the beginning of 1930s, the violence of bolshevism and the events of starting war at 1941. Škėma’s works are contain distinct biographical, anthropological, esthetical, mythopoetic and historic levels. Possible relations between literature and history are considered by acknowledging Škėma’s texts as especially valuable not only in artistic sense, but also the sense of cultural memory.
