Summary/Abstract: As a collaborator with Averell Harriman and Elie Abel on their co-authored memoir of Harriman's service during the Second World War, I should like to comment on William Larsh's essay, "W. Averell Harriman and the Polish Question, December 1943-August 1944" (EEPS 7:3 [Fall 1993}, pp. 513-54). Mr. Larsh writes that although the Polish issue takes up a substantial portion of Harriman's memoir, the pages devoted to the Polish controversy are a flawed and incomplete account. He criticizes Ambassador Harriman's diplomacy as well as the memoir's summary of the issue. I appreciate the care with which Mr. Larsh has read Special Envoy against the available documentation. I respond to his essay, therefore, in a spirit of shared scholarly endeavor. Nonetheless, I believe that both Harriman's diplomacy and the account provided by the memoir can be scrutinized in a different light. Mr. Larsh's critique, moreover, might have benefited from asking me or Elie Abel directly about reasons for omission or inclusion of material. [...]
