Summary/Abstract: and the Manuscripts of Samuil Micu’s TranslationThe translation of the Bible published in Blaj, in 1795, made by the Greco catholic Samuil Micu is an important document for the Romanian bible tradition. This text was translated from the old Greek text, Septuagint, edited by Lambert Bos. The Greco Catholic monk and scholar made a new translation of the Bible, but also revised the Bucharest Bible (1688). This study focuses on Samuil Micu’s translation of Blaj Bible (1795), the printed version and the two manuscripts, the first one (kept in four volumes) and the copied and revised version, that made it to the printed form of the Bible. The text is preserved in eight manuscripts and it is written in black ink with no ornaments. Parts of the text were lost, but some volumes are well kept at the Romanian Academy Library, in Cluj. The article deals mostly with the translating problems identified in the books of Genesis from the two manuscripts, Ms.70 (the first translation) and Ms.111 (the revised and copied form). The Bible of Blaj (1795) is dominated by an important number of 1631 glosses, consisting in explanations of words or expressions. We aim to discuss the notes and the contexts which present differences from one manuscript to another in comparison with the printed form. A classification was made in order to deliver a more accurate perspective.
