Summary/Abstract: Round the year 1900, in Romania, the using of black oil at naval engines began. The first ships in Romania which used black oil as fuel were „Regele Carol I” and „Principesa Maria”, in 1900–1903. The superiority of the new fuel to the coal used before, was demonstrated from all points of view. These atempts joined the general stream and the fuel abundently produced at that time in Romania was favorably put into value.
