Summary/Abstract: The article reviews some strategic documents at an European level that define skills development as a priority of vocational education and training. Special attention is paid to the presentation of the European Credit System for Vocational Education and Training (ECVET) as a tool to facilitate the transparency and comparability of the professional qualifications. The role of the ECVET is linked to the European Skills Agenda and the prospects for a green and digital transition. Based on the European Skills Index, conclusions are drawn about the need for lifelong guidance and building partnerships between all stakeholders for skills development, professional development to provide a competitive workforce.
