Summary/Abstract: Consumerism, as well as social current, is, in fact, a basic feature of capitalist society. It is, in essence, a sum of consumer and consumer measures: it refers to the measures taken to protect the consumer, to inform him and to create rights to protect him against the abuses of the consumer society; ethical rules on advertising and product promotion. It is a trend, a current theory that supports the importance of consumption for society, but generally this term is given a pejorative significance, referring to the excessive consumption concern, the excess of shopping, the waste of this habit. it is associated with the purchase of the obsession for the possession of goods, with a sense of property that is too developed. “The way we consume shapes our everyday life,” says Steven Miles in his book “Consumerism - As A Way of Life”. Moreover, he calls consumerism to be the very religion of the twentieth century.
