Summary/Abstract: From the dawn of civilization, man felt the need to underline his existence and to communicate through art. The universal impulse of creation, so customary to human nature, has materialised in a relatively late period of our evolution – despite the fact that the history of modern man starts roughly about 150.000 years ago, the first painted images are registered much later, between 35.000 and 25.000 B.C., at the end of the last glaciation, when rudimentary thinking and survival instinct made way for artistic creativity.
