Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to explore the factorial structure of the Client Motivation for Therapy Scale (CMST), based on the self-determination theory, as well as to conduct the analysis of the inter-correlations among the various client motivation for therapy types, along the self-determination continuum. The research sample consisted of 213 clients involved in several psychotherapeutic schools (154 female and 47 male). The average age of participants was M=34 (SD=1.16). The data were collected using individual work method and the following instruments were applied: Sociodemographic Features Questionnaire and Client Motivation for Therapy Scale, measuring six types of the client motivation for therapy (amotivation, external, introjected, identified, integrated and intrinsic motivation). PCA generated five factors explaining 60% of the variance. While five factor solution extracted does not entirely replicate the original scale structure, the conclusion could be drawn that the scale is consisted of stable factor structure with satisfactory reliability coefficients of the subscales (ranging from α=.62 to α=.82). The inter-correlations obtained among the various types of client motivation for therapy provide support for the self-determination continuum. The results indicate the CMTS is reliable instrument that measures different client motivation for therapy types and that self-determination continuum is confirmed on Bosnian sample of clients.
