Summary/Abstract: Gradacac as a geomorphological unit belongs to the geographical area of Bosanska Posavina and in that context it has developed through the past. It may be important to note that the wider area of Gradacac, but also the city itself had an extremely turbulent history in almost all historical periods. Thus, social as well as related demographic changes were interesting though not spectacular, those gave a picture of the space in historical periods. This paper will deal exclusively with those changes that occurred at the turn of the XIX. and XX. century. Following the course of the past, we notice that it was Austro-Hungary that introduced a new until then unknown way of life through, say, a new civilization, a different culture, in fact the European spirit, into these Bosnian regions as well. With their presence there was a start in the construction of bridges, roads, modern economic facilities, schools, hospitals, railway stations, waterworks, prestigious buildings, theatres and museums. It should be said on this occasion that during the period of the disintegration of the Ottoman Empire and the arrival of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, significant demographic and social changes took place. This can be very clearly seen in the example of Gradacac. Thus, for example, at the turn of the two centuries, Gradacac, but also Posavina as a whole, is developing unequally, and thus they are accompanied by social as well as demographic changes. So, the changes, as we have said, were not as spectacular as, for example, in some Western European more developed industrial countries. However, given all the problems and difficulties, the city of Gradacac is changing and strengthening its ethnic, religious, social, cultural and political mosaic, so we can say it is becoming a vital center of new civilizational and cultural changes in Posavina and the new province of the Monarchy
