Summary/Abstract: Gheorghe Ţiţeica (1873–1939), born in Turnu-Severin, romanian mathematician, was professor at the University and School of Polytechnique from Bucharest, member of The Romanian Academy (1913) and of other academies and scientific societies from our country and abroad, Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Warsaw. Through his work on differential geometry, he has been known in the scientific world. He dealt specifically with the study of the ecuation of Laplace. He was a great disseminator of science. In colaboration with other scienties, he founded three magazines: The Mathematical Gazette, The nature for spreading the sciences (with G.G. Longinescu); he edited the magazine Mathematics (with D. Pompeiu). Șerban Ţiţeica (1908–1986), born in Bucharest, romanian physicist, the son of Gheorghe Ţiţeica, was professor at the University of Bucharest, member of The Romanian Academy, member of The Scientific Academy of the USSR, member by correspondence of The Saxon Academy from Leipzig. He is a scientific personality through his significant contributions in the theoretical physics, quantum mechanics, the physics of the atomic nucleus and the elementary particles and also of their rotation. At the anniversary of 140 years from the birth of Gheorghe Ţiţeica (mathematician) and 105 years from the birth of his son (physicist), path breakers of the exact sciences, we present testimonials regarding the life and activity of these two scientists.
