Summary/Abstract: In the present study, we capitalize on the very close integration in the Romanian culture of two travel journals published in the middle of the nineteenth century (1854-1858) by the Irish Patrick O'Brien and the American James O. Noyes. The two authors, talented storytellers, undertake a subtle and sometimes anticipatory analysis of the situation of Moldova and Ţara Românească, occupied successively and used as a theater of war by the Tsarist army and the Ottoman army in the Crimean War. The comparative reading and analysis of the two exceptional texts, which refers to the same historical moment, gives the reader a spectacular restructuring of profound memory where we anchor the origin of modern Romania and the present destiny of the Romanians.
