The Button

Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the way in which selected elements of material culture can reflect the most important events in the history of particular countries. By referring to a little-known domain of historical science, i.e. orbiculology, the author proposes to widen the field of its exploration, illustrated by the example of Chile. Referring to, i.a. The Pearl Button (El botón de nácar), a documentary film directed by Patricio Guzmán Lozanes, he tries to show that even a single small button could prove to be essential for recalling the past.
