Summary/Abstract: The author points out that in Polish constitutional tradition, bicameral parliaments play very important role. She examines the structure and functions of a bicameral parliament, claiming that the Senate acts as the second chamber under an unequal bicameralism model. The main function of both chambers, performed jointly, is lawmaking. In the author’s view the arguments for abolishing the Senate – although currently presented in political debates and declarations – in the nearest future will probably not be given support for bringing them to life. The more probable seems to be a reform of the second chamber, not only in the field of legal solutions, but also on via parliamentary practice.
