Summary/Abstract: After the Unification of the Principalities, the founders of modern Romania imposed radical changes in all the areas of social life, including Science. For the development of the Romanian Science it has appealed to various specialists from Europe. Among the foreigners who settled in Romania and identified with its interests, alongside of Carol Davila, Wilchelm Knechtel and Maurice Jaquet, Arnold Lucien Montandon counted, too.Born in France, although he did not do university studies, he would become, like Aristide Caragea, one of Europe’s greatest entomologists of his time. He did the first research of Hemipterology in Romania, bringing outstanding contributions to the knowledge of this group on the basis of the scientific material collected in Wallachia, Moldova and Dobrudja. He worked within the Museum of Natural History, alongside of Grigore Antipa, leaving to the Museum one of the largest collections of Hemiptera, a real scientific treasury.Recognized as one of Europe’s greatest specialists in the field of Hemiptera, he was appealed by the British Museum to make order in the collections of the museum.In recognition of his work he was elected Corresponding Member of the Romanian Academy and honorary member of the largest museums in Europe. Through his entomological research, Arnold Lucien Montandon can be considered one of the founders of the Romanian Entomology.
