Summary/Abstract: The Arctic Council is the most important forum of cooperation in the Arctic and an excellent example of regional cooperation, both at the intergovernmental and social level. Moreover, its importance for the region must be appreciated through the change in the image of the Arctic brought about by the Council, and drawing attention of the international community to the Arctic’s problems, with a special emphasis on climate changes. Through organizations and institutions dealing with the Arctic matters, it has been trying to secure for the North an order based on sustainable development, environment protection, and a stable social system.
