Summary/Abstract: The article describes selected rescue operations that took place in the Arctic during the Cold War and afterwards. The author focuses on the international aspect of search and rescue actions and analyses the evolution of the forms and procedures of cooperation between services and the obstacles which emergency cooperation faces in this part of the world. The author also attempts to determine the perspectives of Arctic rescue operations at the beginning of the twenty-first century.
