Political Struggles of Knez Miloš Obrenović (1815–1839) – From History to Oral Folk Tradition

Summary/Abstract: In addition to historical sources, this paper thematizes and systematizes the recorded oral narratives and poetic contents that characterize the burning and dramatic battles that Prince Miloš Obrenović led against his political opponents in the period from 1815 until his exile from Serbia in 1839. Particular transpositions of the historical content into the tissue of oral forms (rumor, anecdote, saga, story of animals, saying, curse, incantation and poem) also feature the characteristic nature and appearance of Prince Miloš Obrenović, who in our tradition distinguished himself as one of the most challenging figures for oral narrative forming.
