Summary/Abstract: The paperwork briefly presents the following aspects: The place of Le Verrier among the great scientists of the 19th Century; The importance of scientific research by Le Verrier; A brief biography, his first scientific studies; Fundamental works: his first astronomical memoir concerns the theory on the motion of Mercury (1843), remodelled and definitely completed in 1859, followed, at intervals, by those of all the remaining major planets; His activity at the Paris Observatory, with two very important directions: the first one representing original research on the planetary system and the second one comprising the summarized details of his observations made each year at the Observatory; Other activities, his concern for improving the working methods and instruments of the Observatory; The scientific contributions of Le Verrier, his merit within the discovery of Neptune, that resulted in honours of all kind being conferred on him.
