Summary/Abstract: The concept of digital economy has evolved lately due to its multiple and dynamic nature and the transformation of digital technologies. Digital economy is the most important driver of innovation, competitiveness and growth in the world. For Europe and businesses operating on its market, digital technologies are key determinants of their further economic growth. To measure the development of a digital economy in one country, the Networked Readiness Index (NRI) is used. The 2016 World Economic Forum Report covers 139 economies and according to this survey, Serbia is 75th with an estimated 4.00 index of online readiness. This indicates that the digital economy in the Republic of Serbia is not sufficiently developed. Its development would improve the export and development performance of the country. In Serbia, the regulatory framework for the application of digital technologies must be improved, as well as the construction of an infrastructure that supports increasing the digital competitiveness of businesses. It is necessary to build an entrepreneurial digital culture by promoting digital entrepreneurs in society and paying special attention to ICT education and retaining the stimulating measures of this expert in the country.
