Summary/Abstract: Professor at the University from Bucharest, since its beginning, in 1864, director of the Museum of Natural History (1867), geolgist, paleontologist, founder of scientific magazines, Gregoriu Ştefănescu was, during 1878–1909, the spokesman of Romania at 11 international geological Congresses. He presented papers in Paris, Bologna, Berlin, London, Washington, Zurich, Petersburg, Vienna, Mexico (1896, 1906), and Stockholm. Some of these meetings were followed by long scientific excursions in most interesting places of the organizing country. It was fabulous the excursion of three months in Russia, that permited him to research a large space, from Urali to eastern extremity of Siberia.
