Analysis of the balance of international commodity exchange of the Republic of Macedonia

Summary/Abstract: One of the main economic characteristics of the Republic of Macedonia, as a developing country, is permanently high deficit and very low coverage of import. This negative phenomenon is due to several factors such as: low technology development, bad structure and organization of the production process, shortage of financial assets, managerial and marketing problems etc. In order to facilitate this situation, long term measures on micro and macro level are necessarily needed. The sectors of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials and the sector of machinery and transport equipment are in extremely bad situation – the deficit is over 450 million USA $. Suffice is realized only in the exchange of miscellaneous manufactured articles, beverages and tobacco. The deficit in the exchange by intended use of products is result of the increased import of the production materials and capital goods, and there is tendency to keep increasing in the future. The commodity exchange with all economic groups of the countries is negative, except with the countries of West Balkan. There is positive tendency in the commodity exchange with the countries of the EU in a view of increased exchange and decreased deficit. The ballance of exchange with particular countries is different, so in that manner, the commodity exchange with few caracteristic countries is separatelly analysed by trade scope, strusture and tendencies of exchange (Serbia, Germany, Russia, Bulgaria and China).
