Summary/Abstract: One cannot help noticing the frequency with which Coleridge’s term ”suspension of disbelief” is called upon when it comes to presenting and commenting “fantastic texts”. This ”suspension”, albeit temporary, applies to a message twice hidden: in the text and in the conscience of the reader. This ambivalence enables us to make use of two types of operations, the Epiphany and the Aphany. We attach here a great importance to the tales depending on Aphany. These texts, far from being only reflections of the society and from conforming to the image imposed on them by the legitimizing authorities, reflect their institutional position and their operating mode. Perceived according to the mode of the Aphany, and of repetition, they question the hidden message conveyed by the story in an unexpected way.
