Summary/Abstract: The Transformers comic books originated in 1984, and have been a vital part of the brand until today. The characters in the story, designed as shapeshifting toys, were given attractively-sounding, mostly descriptive names. When, in 1991, the Transformers comic books appeared in Poland, their publishers were aware of the need to explain those names, as well as of the originally-named merchandise already available in the country. This article explores how the approach varies through time and specific sections of the comics, and how this issue was handled in the recent reintroduction of the books.
