Summary/Abstract: This paper is part of a thesis on the role of personal archive collections in the construction of historical art knowledge (using materials from the archives of Lyubomir Tenev and Alexander Alexandrov). Travelling, researchers deepen their research and at the same time manage to collect material for both their research and archives, while sharing experiences and ideas. Under socialism, travelling abroad was the only way to have access to foreign literature. In this respect, film critic Alexander Alexandrov was favoured because in that period he was able to travel around the world and form a huge collection of books, in his words, 24,000 from 26 countries, as well as 6,000 books on cinema and 8,000 magazines.
