Summary/Abstract: This paper is an excerpt from a doctoral thesis on the role of personal archives in the construction of historical art knowledge, based on the archives of Lyubomir Tenev and Alexander Alexandrov. Man’s imagination is the best mirror of man’s essence used not only when creating, but also when understanding an artwork. In this process, one’s point of view and position leave their marks on and endow an artwork with a soul. Critics are a mirror image of authors, tracing the processes of materialisation of a work towards the idea in order to construct their vision. In the period under consideration, critical thinking has outlined the framework of and provided the guidelines for authors to make their works so that to meet the expectations of the audiences and the requirements of the political environment. This paper makes an attempt to present the creative processes in theatre through the eyes of a critic.
