Summary/Abstract: In the paper we present the results of qualitative research, which examined the importance of grandparents in the care of children with DMO. We consider the findings significant because the topic of the impact of a child's disability on the lives of their grandparents, whether emotionally or practically, and the importance of grandparents in caring for a child with disability is a little researched and discussed topic in Slovak conditions as well as in the world. Our results can be helpful in clarifying the role of grandparents in caring for a child with disability, in our case with cerebral palsy. Our research has shown that grandparents are an important support for a family with a child with DMO. When they are intensively involved in the care of a disabled child, they experience similar emotions as the parents and often assume a number of parenting competences. It even seems that they replace and supplement missing services to a family with a disabled child. They are a source of financial, emotional or practical support for the family and thus facilitate its functioning.
