Summary/Abstract: In Romainian country, the long reign of Brancoveanu (1688-1714) has concurred with theaffirmation of a specific style, named as ‘brancovenesc’, a synthesis of renaissance and baroqueelements blended on the basis of old local traditions. The most important monuments of this style arethe PrincelyPalace in Mogosoaia and the Hurezi Monastery. The cultural and political elite of theRomanian society has tried to compensate reality by creating historical literature – with the purpose tounveil the noble origin of Romanian. The Brancoveanu epoch has opened up to western influenceswhich have started to prevail upon the oriental ones. Artistic life and culture from the time ofBrancoveanu’s reign expressed, in an age of transformation in the eastern political geography thecountry’s own identity.Constantin Brancoveanu has undertaken a vast work of cultural patronage. During his timethe unification of a part of the RomanianChurch of Ardeal with Rome takes place, an unification whichis accepted by the orthodox clergy.
