Summary/Abstract: Ion Mihalache was a rural teacher who became one of the great politicians of GreatRomania.Managed by the desire to help the peasants as much as possible, Mihalache founded theNational Peasant Party in December 1918. From the debut on the Romanian political scene, theNational Peasant Party places Ion Mihalache among the great romanian politicians. He was ministerin seven governments, vicepresident and then president of the National Peasant Party, ThiS partywasone of the most powerful Romanian parties, founded in October 1926 by merging the PeasantParty with the Romanian National Party. A politician with principles, he refuses to support the regimeof the authoritarian monarchy of Carol II but also to take part in the Antonescu government becausehe supported the struggle for the liberation of Basarabia, The North of Bucovina and Herţa Land fromthe USSR. After August 23, 1944 he was involved with Iuliu Maniu in the reorganization of PNŢ toprevent the establishment of the communist regime. Arrested in 1947 by the communist authorities IonMihalache is detained in the Galati Penitentiary,in Sighetul Marmaţiei and then in the RâmniculSărat Prison where he dies in difficult conditions
