Summary/Abstract: With financial services quickly developing, innovation and globalization are providing us with an access to an ever rising number of products and services designed to suit various needs and circumstances. Many of the citizens, though, find orientation in the maze of products and services complicated and difficult, our adult population often lacks even the basics of financial literacy. Education in this area must be introduced into the curriculum systematically and as soon as possible. The government of Slovak republic understands this need and hence prepared the National standard of financial literacy. Starting in 2014/2015 school year, financial education has been mandatory from the very start of compulsory school attendance. Development of financial literacy with teachers in primary education is a new requirement, without tradition. Therefore, we studied the level of financial literacy in pre-service primary teachers, whether they have the knowledge and skills necessary to implement even the most basic elements of financial literacy into primary education.
