Mechanisms of taking over German words in the Polish local dialect in Lviv region

Summary/Abstract: The article describes the mechanisms of taking over German words to the conspiracy dialecton the phonetic-flexible and word-forming level. German language borrowings accountfor a significant percentage of the vocabulary in the conspiracy. Different historical andgeographical conditions of the area contributed to this. The mass settlement of Germans in thecities caused the German loans to become more and more numerous and took root unnoticedin the language. The Germanisms presented here show a different degree of dependence ontheir originals, usually making it difficult, and sometimes impossible, to indicate their sources,which was related to the fact that quite often the source of Polish borrowings were Germanbustling, environ mental or colloquial expressions.
