Review ot the book „History, trade unions and society“

Summary/Abstract: The reviewed book presents the history of trade unions in the Czech lands (and, subsequently, in Czechoslovakia/Czech Republic) from the establishment of the first organisations and workers’ associations to the present. The reviewer praises the overall informativeness of the book, the interesting explanation of a number of issues and its high graphic level. However, the reviewer considers it a minor shortcoming that in the parts of the book devoted to the period prior to 1938, the authors failed to properly approach the economic and social contexts of the efforts of workers and trade unions to achieve decent working conditions.
