Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is an attempt to define the basic elements of the administrative and legal concept of “village”. For many years, rural issues have been a significant subject of local government legislation. Hence the administrative and legal essence of the village is complex. A village can be either a municipality or only a town with certain administrative boundaries. The specific nature of the village is also reflected in the general population, which can be considered as local community with its own needs and interests, as well as certain powers. This community can be included in the framework of the auxiliary self-government and support the municipality in performing public tasks.
