Summary/Abstract: The Act XC of 2017 on criminal procedure (later: CP) has been put into force on July 1st, 2018. One of the legal policy goals declared in its preamble is to put special emphasis on the increased protection of the victims of criminal acts and on the enforcement of their rights. Besides this general principle, the rules of the directive 2012/29/EU concerning the protection of victims of crime have been considered during the reformation of the provisions concerning civil claims. The aim of the codification was “for the state to express more clearly than ever: it stands with the victim of the crime and considers those who meaningfully contribute to the conducting of the criminal procedure as partners as well. It must be made clear in the practice of criminal procedure that committing crimes does not pay, and illegally obtained riches may not be retained.
